ChickTech High School Programs

ChickTech: High School is a free year-long series of opportunities for 100 high school girls. We would love to have your students participate. This program is much more than just an opportunity to learn about tech careers. In addition to participating in fun, hands-on technical workshops throughout the year, participants will have the opportunity to network with technologists across Orange County. The program is a fun, positive learning experience designed to build participants’ confidence in their technical abilities, provide positive role models, and create connections with other young women from Orange County and surrounding areas.

Through generous donations from our members and local companies, this program is offered free-of-charge to participants, with transportation, child care stipends provided as needed.

“This year, my senior year, I have applied to engineering schools for college. Without having the experience of ChickTech, I wouldn’t have even thought to be interested in technology. Now I want to go to school for it.”

What Makes Us Unique

A crucial aspect of our program is finding young women who would not otherwise have thought of themselves as technologists. As parents, educators, and community members, many of you have seen young women not reach their potential in STEM because they thought it was too difficult—or it wasn’t what they’ve seen women do.  By asking community members to hand-select our participants, we are giving our participants a vote of confidence: people who know them and their abilities have nominated them for this exclusive opportunity! Our large events tend to fill up and have waiting lists, so we encourage you to nominate students ASAP to give your students the best chance of participating in our program.

Nominations for our 2018-2019 Cohort are now being accepted!

We are now accepting applications for our 2018-2019 Cohort. Please nominate girl-identifying, trans (of any gender), gender-fluid, and other gender minority youth. Nominations may be submitted here: http://bit.ly/Nominate18. Below is the schedule for our 2018-2019 nomination process:

Now –Ongoing: Please nominate up to 9 students who may benefit from our program here.  Some of our recommended criteria are:

  1. Have an aptitude or interest for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), along with creativity and willingness to learn new things
  2. Would probably not consider a tech career without extra encouragement
  3. Have not created or participated in technology before (e.g., who are not already on a robotics team, Science Fair, Science Olympiad, etc.)

September 15- Ongoing: First wave of acceptance letters addressed to each of the potential participants will be sent out electronically.  Nominations will be reviewed on a rolling basis between now and end of October.

September 15- End of October: Participants register for the event, either online or with the paper registration form. The event is first come, first served, although we will have a waiting list in case there are cancellations.

November 17-18: Kickoff at Platt College in Anaheim!  Over the course of two days we will be hosting numerous workshops and working with students. We encourage family and friends to attend the Tech Showcase on November 18th to show support for the students you have nominated.

TBD: We will host additional one-day workshops approximately once a month across Orange County.
